Your Safety
Participant safety is our top priority and at Dragons Alive we are proud to have built an excellent reputation within the industry based on exemplary health & safety standards.
Dragons Alive are holders of an AALA Licence and this in itself is true testament to our high standards and impeccable safety record. In 1996 it became a legal requirement under The Activity Centre's (Young Persons' Safety) Act 1995 for providers of certain adventure activities (of which dragon boat racing is one) to undergo inspection of their safety management systems and become licensed to operate. This licensing scheme applies to those who offer activities to young people under the age of 18 years and who operate these activities in a commercial manner.
From a charity viewpoint the AALA license allows us to involve children as young as 12 in dragon boat regattas without their parent or legally appointed guardian being present in the boat. Children as young as eight can also participate as long as an adult is willing to join in the fun to!
Dragons Alive safety package:
Prior to each event Dragons Alive carries out a full risk assessment to determine the risk associated with hosting the dragon boat regatta at your venue. A copy of this risk assessment will be made available for your records.
At the start of the event every participant must attend a full safety briefing to ensure they are fully aware of the associated risks and the safety procedures in place.
Following the safety briefing each participant will be required to sign the team declaration sheet and given a green wristband to be worn throughout the regatta as proof of their attendance at the safety briefing.
All competitors must wear a buoyancy aid supplied by Dragons Alive when on the water. No participant will be allowed to race in their own buoyancy aid.
Dragons Alive owns and maintains its own equipment meaning it can vouch for its fitness and suitability at all times.
All Dragons Alive helms are certified to British Dragon Boat Association standard.
Dragons Alive carry full public and third party liability insurance.
Dragons Alive strictly prohibits any participant from consuming alcohol until they have finished racing.
